So..The Academy Awards (the same awards I haven't watch since Three 6 Mafia won for their contributions to Hustle & Flow...and wasn't invested in before hand) came on Sunday night and the world (most of it anyway) tuned in looking for a train wreck or some sort of militant display. What they got was...Chris Rock. The Classic version of Chris too, the satirical sniper of all things ironic and uncomfortable. I understand Rock's brand of comedic genius isn't everyone's preference, but It feels from the pulse of my timelines a lot of individuals were looking for something totally different than what they received.

Let's take a look at the opening monologue...

Some of my friends and people I share common understanding with felt this was a let down, a disappointing display, some even went as far as to call it a minstrel show. I saw it totally different. I heard a room full of uncomfortable souls doing their best to "laugh-track" through a scathing, yet comical depiction of being Black in Hollywood. Every-time the audience thought Chris was going to lighten their burden and make an apologetic point on their oblivious behalf to relieve the tension of decades of racial, and gender discrimination transgressions... another truth loaded over-hand right cross struck them back into an uneasy, defensive state. (The BEST example of this is at the 1 min 30 second mark. 3 min 58 sec isn't too bad either.)

This was REALLY slick, to the point that I don't even think Stacey knows she was the premise as well as the punchline of the joke. Saving a long explanation... She's Clueless now IN REAL LIFE & only Black in skin color so a group of out of touch, delusional critics would ONLY appoint someone as out of touch and delusional as them to "oversee" an "outreach program",

Then this happened...

IMO I'm cool w/ the strategic chipping away at the lack of diversity through comedic anecdotes, none more appropriate than Angela Bassett's "Black History Month Minute". The title itself is a clever play, this is  chess not checkers. The next move is what matters.  

Everything is perspective and perception, your opinion matters and if you feel differently we can compare notes. If we're in the same position pandering for recognition next year then this was a complete failure. If it was the public "Dear John Letter" before the next chapter in Black Entertainment it's a clear win.
